Reality: Mental Illness does NOT discriminate. Let me say that one more time for the people in the back who didn't hear me. MENTAL ILLNESS does not discriminate. Statistics show that 1 in four Americans will experience some sort of Behavioral Disorder in their lifetime. There is no age, race, religion, gender or economic requirement / status requirement. While anyone can develop such disorders, there are varying factors that can increase the vulnerability of these said disorders in the African American Community.

This post is just to enlighten you of such factors, causing you to evaluate your surroundings and to remain congnisant so that you recognize the signs and symptoms as laid out:

1- RACISM

2- RELIGIOUS BELIEFS

3- POVERTY

4- VIOLENCE

5- LACK OF PROVIDER CULTURAL COMPETENCY
